Psychology behind Hand Gestures

Hello hello dear schoolmates! Have you ever wondered why do people always move their hands while they're talking? More specifically, when they are trying to give a convincing speech. Well I wondered the same thing and went to do a little research about it!

So... it turns out that hand gestures actually have something to do with a person's personality! ( not sure if it's scientifically proven though ) As reported by Huffington Post, people who “talk” with their hands tend to be viewed as warm, agreeable and energetic, while those who are less animated are seen as logical, cold and analytical. Moreover, hand gestures help us take what’s in our mind and make it intelligible to others. “Gesture is really linked to speech, and gesturing while you talk can really power up your thinking,” Kinsey Goman said. I believe that could be true, as I see others talking, it does seem more charismatic when a person talks with confident hand gestures.

Talking from a psychology point of view, as reported on Psychology Today, when a person uses no hand gestures while talking, his speech may be perceived as indifference. While when a person speaks with his hands hidden, it'd seem difficult to convince the audience. However, when a person speaks with hands open and palms at a 45 degree angle ( hmm very accurate..) , it sends a message to the audience that the speaker is being honest and open.

Well that's all I've got for today! If you like more interesting posts like this,
